Unexpected Good News

Just seen Prof – who laid out an A4 page with about 8 different markers on it (haemoglobin levels, Bence Jones protein presence, ratios, Para protein etc) showing my status from the PET CT yesterday vs a year ago.

And he had to eat his words of last week which were 'I am almost tell you now that it is going to show a marked difference' – as, somehow thank god, it didn't. The scores across all markers were practically the same as a year ago (and even I was surprised at that, as everyone's body can be expected to deteriorate to a degree over a year).

Bloody marvellous to hear the words 'so, in this situation you may not need to go ahead with treatment at this point as it cannot definitely be said that your myeloma has progressed'. He did look rather taken aback, which was top to see.

(Although he did temper it with the 'if we can't find a solution then your best bet may still be to go on treatment and get to complete remission to see if this kills off the pain) – we're ignoring that one for now.

But – it still doesn't clarify why the hell I have such a pain in my chest (no, not the one in my neck that I am married to..) but the one lower down in the centre of my sternum.

So – off again tonight for a second MRI Scan (to add to the one I had on Friday and the PET CT from yesterday, you just can't spend enough time with someone saying 'breathe in, breathe out') to the background noise of 70's disco pop.

I'm actually hoping it might show a small fracture as this would be a logical explanation for the pain – and could be treated with radiotherapy. And would stop this endless hunt for what the hell is causing the aggro. (Last night again, it woke me up at midnight – and I was up all night watching crap on the telly. Have just ordered an Amazon FireStick to at least improve the options around the witching 3am slot when there really is cock all to see and even I don't fancy the rubbish on QVC).

So – awaiting a convo with Prof tonight with the MRI results – it's a 6pm scan so that really is great service to be slotted in, scanned, reported on and then rung – hopefully we might be in the Earl Spencer having a well deserved pint, only my 2nd alcohol in dry January to celebrate.

More to follow. Can't believe I am actually hoping for a fracture! Weird shit huh.

x
