I had an unusually cultured moment this week, when the time rolled round to drag Janine & Clare G to the Escher exhibition at Somerset House. I think the combo of it being an interactive thing, him being Dutch, the pleasing symmetry of his style, alongside its quirkiness, managed to lure me into getting tickets!

TBH I’d have liked a few more interactive things as there were a lot of ‘stare at this small image and see what he did there’ piccies on the walls, but there was enough to keep me happily in there for at least an hour – longer than I last in most museums, galleries etc…

Quite liking the huge Greeners (there’s a first time for everything!) and teeny tiny Janine optical illusion here. To reward our cultural efforts, we then had a very nice lunch at Forza, one of the restaurants at The National Theatre, sitting outside and enjoying a river view – recommended.

On a different note, I was then invited next door for supper last night, as Anita’s Canadian mom, Nama, and her bearded brother Garth had just arrived for a visit from the depths of Saskatoon..

As it was Ellie’s 20th birthday coming up on the Saturday, we had an early lamb BBQ, strawberry cake and prezzies celebration – they will be spending the actual day at the Edinburgh Tattoo (!) so I think Ellie was chuffed to have an evening all for herself.

It’s always very lovely to be included in family events by our fabulous neighbours – and Maddie had a great evening of ‘chase the golf ball into the garden and get loads of plant bits stuck in her coat’ – we are very lucky to have them x
