The Mud Monster

How great that at last the common has dried up, all the impromptu lakes have gone and its finally all nice and non-boggy. Wellies begone – today was a trainers day.

And how lovely that at the end of our walk, the dog beast was all nice and white, clean and dry, as we neared the car park. No need for hosing, splashing, freezing hands and still somehow muddy dogginess.

What I hadn't factored in, was Scrumpy's incredible memory for any puddle, large or small.

Took my eyes off her for 5 seconds and she was off – 100 yards down the path.

And that's where I found her. Deliriously happy, bathing in a puddle that was more mud than water. Which didn't stop her drinking it too, re-vol-ting.

First just some satisfied sitting, eyes full of knowing, then the full contented splash down.

Cue sympathetic/amused glances of everyone we then walked past as we got back to the car, their dogs all smugly pristine and mine more black than white. Not so lucky Mummy, large sigh x
