So then, the puppy joining 54 Stroud Road seems to be becoming more of a future reality.

H is now surgically attached to any website on puppy training, has been ringing the vet to see how to break the canine news to poor Mojo, has been hanging out with the breeder in Hampshire and to top it all, a book on the Working Springer Spaniel has just arrived this morning.

Suddenly I see an upside: Does that mean I don't have to work any more, if we get one of these??

Went down with H to see the litter from which our small ball of destructive drooling fury may come from, near the New Forest… Not sure which of the two girls we'll get (H for some reason wants a girl, even though I'd guessed he might have referred some male bonding in a house of 3 women already). Breeder is taking first dibs on the girl puppies (apparently so she can choose 'by character' – also known to the more cynical of us as 'I'll be picking the better one so you get the girly runt').

Anyway – here they are. if we go ahead, the new pup will be coming early Aug ust. Watch this space…

PS Really hoping we don't get the one with a blue plastic ball of string as its head….
