(High) Society Islands

At last – tomorrow Mr H & I are finally off on our quest towards the Society Islands, part of French Polynesia or the South Pacific, whichever vaguely twangs a chord in your brain that say 'bloody hewll, that's a long way away'.

Heading to San Francisco first to hook up with Janine & Ross and to see J's brother and family do the Alcatraz swim (mad buggers). Hawksey & I will then drive down the Pacific Highway, hunting for seals, whales, otters and anything else kind of grey and cute en route to LA, wher we relocate the Capons at the Sunset Marquis.

Then its off to Tahiti and straight on to Raiatea where we pick up our boat – our transport and home for the next two weeks. Will we starve if we don't manage to catch any fish? (Ross has spent $200 on a new rod and I've got a brand new one in my case too – let piscine battle commence). Will we want to kill each other after 14 days on some floating machine in the middle of utterly nowhere? Will the IPad app version of Trivial Pursuit & several bottles of Tanqueray be enough to keep us busy at night? Will the amount of porridge I've packed for breakfast actually help send us back thinner? (Dream on, porkball).

Will let you know when we get back in 3 weeks time! Till then, here's the map of the South Pacific – the Society Islands are so small they aren't actually visible on there but they are in between the Cook Islands and Tahiti – woo hoo! And if you're thinking 'smug git' rest assured that I will be in pieces when we get back as we only just worked out that we are overnight (and no, not in Club) for not just one but two consecutive nights on a plane on the way back as we do our three flights and loads of waiting as penance for going so crazily far….
