Day 4 – Saturday

Another broken sleep last night – kipped 10pm-12 then woke up for FaceTime with a slightly sozzled Mr H at midnight (Scrumpy sleeping very happily on Mummy Bear's side of the bed next to him). Then Words with Friends vs Clare Greenwood the night owl at 1am, an episode of Graham Norton from 1.30-2.30am… followed by trying to stuff ear plugs back in and convince myself back to sleep. Had to steadily persuade my own head to switch off, so kipped probably 3.30-5.10am when had to pee, and measure it. That wakes you up, so it's now 5.33am and I've been weighed, had obs done, am showered and hair washed and have got tea..

9.30am: Just had the whopping neck line unstitched and pulled out. You know the nurse is lying when she says 'oh it's just the same as having a cannula removed'. Well, someone pulling 14cm of tubing with a cap out of your neck plus several stitches is not the same I can tell you. Not truly awful but definitely not nice.

Morning picked up with a visit from Vicki, discussing plans for her Civil Partnership next year. Then Sophie Green after lunch with a FaceTime call to Nicky Anderson in Mendoza, Argentina. Amazing how you can just dial someone in – she and Jules are having an extra day off their bikes, so good to catch up. 40 degrees there, nice. Visitors day was topped off with Janine, with Mr H in between. Definitely helps massively to pass the time while I am still 'well'. Not sure if next week I will be on as good form but we will see.

Trundled up and down the corridors and stairs a few times to try and cling on to a bit of 'fitness'. Might as well get out before I go neutropenic and the room is sealed off with me in it. Some poor sod had their 70th birthday here today – balloons in the relatives room.

Dinner was a tiny bit of fish on pasta – good job it was small as ten minutes later I threw it all up, first vomit chalked up. More anti-sickness drugs issued as a result.

Wondering how tomorrow will be. Hair still intact. As Janine said 'you'll be 1/4 of the way through then' – feels like a long way to go x
