Wow – what a brilliant civil partnership – my first ever and it would be hard to beat. Amazing that it was hot, sunny and gorgeous up in the Lake District – the perfect weather for their Big Day.
Started off with a good old natter over supper with some of the (many!) girls who were there – the boys having been relegated to the bar.
Everything went swimmingly – warm enough to even have breakfast outside our pub hotel, and SO lovely to see everyone there. I think I had the added bonus of knowing possibly more people than any of the other guests – it was like a party for me!
Vicki & Tina were very very happy and it all went off without a hitch. Gorgeous views from the venue over fields with sheep, including one naughty little black one that seemed to like humping everything in sight. Loved the photo frame idea – there must have been hundreds taken by the end of the night – this one is the Wimbledon hockey girls, past and present.
And of course there were MANY hockey people there – check out the token husbands bravely tagging onto the gaggle..
And good to catch up with the oldest Vicki friends there – Rach & Lou from university days. I think we look just like we did when we were 20…
Had my big 'father of the bride/best woman' speech moment – well, twenty minutes in the end, telling Vicki stories and luckily, managing to raise a few laughs. GREAT relief that it went down (actually really very) well, and that hopefully her parents didn't quite hear the two risqué cracks about Queen Pussy or Vicki's swallowing abilities… I don't seem to have any photos of this bit – any welcome!
Long journey back yesterday with Jules and Nicky, starting with the ferry over Lake Windermere, but still on a high from the speech and the lovely comments I got from everyone – well chuffed and pleased that Vicki cried (in a good way!)
What a Do… x
