Just back from a week in Tenerife, staying half a mile further north up the west coast Adeje area from where we were last year. Not quite as good weather, including a full day of rain which meant that every tourist, including us, decamped to the shopping centre. And yes, as usual, H managed to buy three items to my paltry one top.
Popped back to our fave restaurant from last year – a fantastic fish place in a little fishing village. Even more of a bargain than last year – this was just one of our three fish dishes, razor clams, huge prawns, garlic brochette and cheesy (bloody lovely) scallops – a large cuttlefish and a red snapper followed…. nom nom nom.
Most proud of the day we went up to the foothills of Mount Teide where I managed to get round the Roques de Garcia walk. Basically a loop around all of the sticky-up rocks here.
It lulls you into a major false sense of security in the first half, on a flat gritted path that is (supposedly, it certainly didn’t feel like it) half of the total distance in only 25 mins of the 1.75 hours of time it says it will take. Then you come round a corner and BAM you’re then heading massively downhill over loose volcanic rocks in a half visible craggy route, then a bit on the flat and then a fairly gruelling set of twisty paths all the way back up. I was a right sweaty jellyfish by the time I slogged my way back up there but it was worth it for the stunning views and some pretty cool rock action all the way round.
H & I were very good at nailing a speed walk every day bar one (my sunbed was calling) – him cajoling me with the annoying words ‘push push’ all the way round. A cold and freshly squeezed orange juice with fizzy water is a good reward though…
Then had the bonus of finding out Liz T was arriving for a 3 night stay at a nearby hotel, so she came over to sunbathe/chat/have lunch then we hooked up later at our nearby beach bar – perfect with a band, decent cocktails, right on the beach and 5 yards from where the paragliders come in to land every few mins. Boom! Back for a bbq after- a nice unexpected day. And a cheeky rooftop cocktail a trois the next eve too..
Very good to feel the sun on your skin in the middle of a wet and windy UK winter – next stop – LA! x
