Sunday Update

Hello lovely people

I am very excited this morning – I actually got 5 hours sleep last night!! Yes – me!! Really! And didn't spend a penny online shopping (mostly as I could;t remember my PIN for the card registered to my National Lottery account, as I got a sudden burst of 'let's play scratch cards' the other day – that was probably a lucky financial escape).

Had a bit of a rough Friday – saw the back guy and was 100% expecting him to say 'yes there's one big hole in your lower back like the one I've mended higher up, and I'm going to mend it for you'. What he actually said was 'your pelvis is like a bit of cheese, ridden with holes and there's nothing I can aim at to operate on'. Majorly disappointing as back pain is still a total bitch and the 'sorry I can't help' answer was an instant boo situation for me. Luckily, the hubby was doing his masterful job and managed to get me out of there.

Then headed to the MRI scanner (where else does a girl spend her Friday mornings these days?) and was on there for TWO WHOLE HOURS.

  1. First scan was the sternum, to see if the chest tumour has got smaller / gone – I don't know the answer to that yet but hopefully someone will read the results and tell me next week. Slightly unhelpfully there is a new small pain on the right of my upper chest but am hoping that might just sod off and not turn into anything.
  2. Then had both left and right shoulder scanned – aim is to see if there is anything that can be done to make these more comfortable for me to swing my arms as I walk – the previous doc talked about 'hoovering out' some loose bits. Anyway – I see Duncan Tennant the shoulder man this coming Wed so we will see what he has to say.
  3. Then rather cleverly a combination of a proactive Mr H and a quick chat with Prof meant that I then had an unexpected scan of my pelvis and sacrum added to the list – the areas that back man had just said he couldn't help with. Presumably these will be shoved under somebody's nose this week in the hope that something can be found that can be done, e.g. a specific area that some radiotherapy or something else might be able to help. I am so lucky that stuff happens quickly – just hope that there is something that can be done.

And then of course predictably – I got stuck on the sodding table AGAIN!!!!!

I was in spasm and it took another 15 minutes and a spot of screaming (never have I howled as much in my whole life I don't think than I have in these past few weeks) as I had to then get up off the scanner bed – ow ow bloody massive ow. Went to the pub with Janine & H and needed a pint of lager top to just stop shaking… There is so clearly something really not good going on in my back, I just hope someone can sort out a spot of mending it and I can then once again have the joy of sleeping lying down..

But – much as Fri was a bit of challenge, Saturday was actually a really good day.

Went to watch Aces play and we whipped ass 15-1!! Probably the biggest score line ever, Soph got Man of the Match for her 6 goals and we went to the pub for teas as the 'slightly zany' player who was Match Manager apparently had never realised that its part of her job to buy the weekly teas. Seems the fairies usually bring them…!

Then J&R popped round for a cuppa (H was out umpiring in Henley by this point) and we had a good natter about plans for the arrival of their new little furry girl in 3 weeks time. All very exciting. Little does Scrumpy realise she is about to be downgraded to 'dog number 2' while the new puppy is bedded in.

And then I made the tip top exec decision to nip to bed for an hour – what a great sleep. Woke up with eye mask on, not a bloody clue if it was day or night. Spent at least a minute asking myself if I had enjoyed Saturday night out with Soph, Vicki, Nicky, Jules & H and when I finally twigged that I couldn't remember a thing about it, worked out that it was 5pm not 5am and that I hadn't been out yet. What a total div.

Met for 6pm G&Ts and I drank the most I have had in the last couple of months – plus we decided not to eat much, This is clearly the way forward! Had the aforementioned great sleep and woke up without a trace of hangover. I was just missing the booze!!!

So here we are now, Sunday morning. Sausages are on, I have a hot water bottle doing a marvellous job of keeping my back relatively pain free (I do love a good hottie) and seeing Mikey & Margo this afternoon for a dog walk and tea.

Love to you all S x
