If only my Spanish had actually improved this holiday! We had a brief flurry of action trying to find a Spanish teacher for each of us, only to fail and then lose the welly to have another crack. People are seemingly waaaaaay less expensive here (15-30 euros an hour) than they are at home, but its finding the right one that is tricky – after doing this blog today I am finally going to email 'Ana in San Fernando' and see if she might be the one. Online dating – sort of.
H and I had a nice trip back to Jerez this week, which is 35 mins away and is such a nice little city. It of course included lunch at Bar Juanito, a very popular and good restaurant that we've been to before just off the main square.
Ostensibly the Jerez visit was in search of some new (cheap) Asics for me (epic fail) and of course it instead resulting in H buying 4 tops in the different shops we went into. I'll have a pair waiting for me care of Amazon now, on my return – the heels of these ones are spewing yellow foam now, all pointing to newbies def being needed.
On the upside, one reason for my knackered shoes is that I have worked off 9,000 calories in exercise across these past 3 weeks – pretty damn good for a blob like me. Just back from this morning's speed walk and it's massively noticeable that it is HOT much earlier now. When we came 3 weeks ago it was still pleasantly warm going out for exercise from say 10-11.30, now it's 25 degrees already and sunny, sunny, sunny. Phew-ee. And of course, just one of us looks sweaty and scarlet in the photo midway round!!
We've been exploring further this trip – new restaurants, beaches etc, as well as little towns – though it was nice too to go back and do the 'beach bar crawl' this week. Which involves cycling to the start of 'Big Beach', then walking 2 miles along the sand at pace (to earn – a bit of – what comes next), then stopping off at various of the chiringuitos bars on the way back for a drink or a nibble, or both. Here's H in one of them that is oddly not very popular despite having swings as seats all the way down one side of the long central table! And quirky lampshades throughout…
And here's himself again, on our walk back from a fish restaurant we'd not tried before (good black spaghetti with seafood, but an incomprehensible menu too) – enjoying the sunset along our beach.
And finally, my best action shot to date of Miss Mads diving into the house pool after her ball – hilarious concentration – and only a slightly splashed phone for me!!!!
