Second to last weekend pre-SCT

Got back from London Clinic on Thurs eve feeling like a total bag of shite, Claire White kindly seeing her rather wobbly and knackered mate back to Wimbers Park in an uber.

Was a mixed day. Started with me feeling quite positive as only needed to get 0.22m cells from the third day of collection to hit the 2m mark needed for transplant to go ahead. Only to hear the nurse's first words 'well, let's hope you are lucky today as you need 3m cells'.
WTF? Talk about changing the bloody goalposts at the last minute..

Long story short, I managed to squeeze out enough to make a total 3.1m cells – bagged up and ready to be spun and purified then frozen for the next 13 days.

Had plans to go by train to Harrogate this weekend, to stay with our spaniel chums, David & Mandy. Felt so crap on Thurs afternoon that didn't think I could possibly go, but somehow with the combo of 24 hours for the gcsf drugs to exit my system and the hope that I wouldn't let everyone down, we made it onto the train to Leeds. Shovelling in everything Virgin offers… the berry compote was rather nice.

Legs pretty weak, very tired as was awake from 3am fretting about what the right thing to do was, but hoping that wouldn't be too much of a Larry Letdown all weekend.

Now sitting on the train on our way back. Am still needing painkillers every few hours which is a drag, though the rolling body pains from the GCSF injections have 90% subsided as the drugs have left my body. Now it's just my crappy back plus general 'blurgh'-ness that need reeling in.

David and Mandy couldn't have been lovelier hosts – or so they seemed from my mostly horizontal perspective. Did make it  It for a bit of rugby viewing – their son in law plays for Ottley – where H surpassed himself by winning the sole raffle prize, a very nice bottle of malt. And also out for a bit of shopping (4 whole stores, get me) and dinner last night. Great as cpuld take their spaniel plus Scrumpy, all v nice.

Will be nice to be back in my own pit tonight, and bathtub. Harpoons at the ready x
