Scotty family day

Hosted the Scott family day yesterday – Richard and Heather and two out of the three adult nieces, Jess plus hubby Pat and Abbie and hubby Nick.

Cathy had been here for the last two days but, as I said to Richard 'it's the first time in her life that Cathy has chosen Jesus before her family', as she had headed back to Cambridge for the weekend, for a college reunion at her old alma mater.

Inevitably for us, it was a damp October day, though perked up by a hefty lunch at the Hand in Hand, in- between two soggy dog walks, to tire out Rick’s hugely energetic collie dog Nancy as well as Scrumpy.

Jess did remarkably well considering she is due to deliver their first baby next week. Cue endless guessing of the name – Amelia? Imogen? Charlotte? Ellie? – but it looks like we will have to wait till new great niece Doyle actually arrives, hopefully in just a few days' time.

Just us six ‘youngies’ stayed for dinner post rugby, think by 10pm we were all reeling from cocktails, nachos, excess chicken & ham pie and my hand made (not entirely to plan!) chocolate and pear tart, which they thought had parsnips on it.. Big thanks to J and Jules for their help in the morning, overnight guests pitching in for the next eve's activities is always v welcome!

And on case you're wondering, that really is a huge glass of Schloer or something similar in Jess's hand, even though it does look like a massive glass of (much missed) white wine…
