Somehow we have made it to the end of another much appreciated, brilliant year.
And what better way to spend it than by invading J&R’s peace & quiet at the coot for a couple of nights…

The dogs hung out together as usual (well, Flossy guarding her sofa space and favourite toys from Maddie, Maddie with her fave Flossy knobbly ball in her gob at all times, except for a brief foray with squeaky sweetcorn here).

We brought oysters, king prawns and halibut with us for the usual pre-NYE fishy feast. Pretending its a healthy choice – albeit with a butter sauce to fill any remaining chinks in our post-Xmas arteries…

And J&R knocked out a mahoosive chunk of beef on the big night itself. We marvelled at how the hell that creepy bugger Jools Holland is somehow still on screen year after after – Chitty Chatty Bang Bang’s child snatcher looky-likey – and dragged ourselves out at midnight into a very frozen garden to wave giant sparklers as per tradition (fireworks having. been banned years ago as they scare the crap out of Flossy – who was literally mid-poo at about 10opm when someone let some off, and she was back in that door, poop re-sucked, before you could say Rocket…..)

Cheers to J for her friendship and support this year – outstanding as ever. (Though it will be payback in Feb when she drags me to Rotterdam in the inevitable winter fog to watch the ATP tennis there!)
2026 here we seem to be. Always remarkable. Always a privilege. Let’s see what it brings us all x
