My Lovely Oldies

As we are off on holiday to Crete tomorrow (the current flight chaos at LHR notwithstanding) I squeezed in a double whammy of my lovely old ladies on Mon & Tues.

Firstly Maureen, for whom this was her second trip out of hospital / care home since January this year – the first being her birthday lunch here back in early July. She was a bit nervous about leaving the home ('isn't it dangerous?') which I guess tallies with what she is told when she tries to call the lift to get out.. But she trusted me enough to get in the car, and off we went to the Common.

I asked her if she'd like a coffee at the cafe, but her choice was 'an ice cream please'. God knows how long it's been since she enjoyed a Mr Whippy but she did love it and said very happily 'that was marvellous' once she'd scoffed the lot. She then tucked into the leftover banana and chocolate cake that Margo sent us off with – I suspect I might need another trip to M&S clothing with her in a few months as she's definitely regained some lost weight since being looked after better, a nice problem to have.

Then it was Jo's turn – her 76th birthday is next week while we are away, so I invited her over for the early birthday lunch of her choice. Which turned out to be 'those lovely sausage rolls that Hawksey made last Christmas', followed by 'scones and cream, please, no sultanas'. Did a few little prezzies, birthday decos and party poppers – and drove her there and back, so all was good.

Was completely knackered by the time we met June,s & Nicky last night for a very nice trip to Bao in Borough, to celebrate his birthday (today). We met at 6pm for a few beers pre dinner, had some very nice nosh at Bao and were on our way home before 9pm! So rock & roll these days…!

Still, we've got today to handover Maddie to Mark & Charlie tonight, who are kindly in doggo parentis while we're away, and to tidy the house for Nicky, who's coming to cat-sit. And do a final bit of packing and admin before – with any luck – the plane goes off as planned tomorrow late morning. Meeting David & Mandy in Chania, Crete – as they're flying from Leeds – all being well x
