Last Friday was the first of my birthday bashes, this time out with the Added Value 5 as we are known!

For the first time ever in the history of our mutual birthday get togethers, which we’ve been doing for over twenty years now, this was not just a two stop evening, but a three stopper. Beginning our evening sharply at 6pm at Mr Fogg’s Pawnbrokers, a really good bar in Soho, for the essential several rounds of cocktails as a kick off.

From there on for a quick supper at Rosa’s Thai, to tick my ‘I love asian food’ box and to open my lovely prezzies – thanks ladies. Rosa’s was just to fuel us up really, in readiness for the big event of the night. Which was that we FINALLY made it to The Room Where It Happens!

This is a banging piano bar – and I can’t believe London just doesn’t have these. Most of us started off our piano bar lives at Rosa’s Turn in New York (before it guttingly closed its doors) – and I’ve been to pretty much every other piano bar there too – but it just hasn’t been a ‘thing’ in London (beyond the odd dull jazz bar) – till now.
Quite bizarre really, considering that London is obviously the home of theatre land, and where there is musical theatre, there are devoted luvvies (like me) who can’t get enough of those showtunes and bit hits of the last decades.
Right on cue as we sat down (thank god to our pre-booked table, it was pretty busy in there) the female pianist/songsinger belted out two hits from Les Mis. And I thank you!! It actually brought tears to my eyes, I do just really love a piano bar singalong..
We chatted to two blokes at the next table who were both theatre singers and everyone around was knocking out the tunes, word for word, whether it was Hairspray, Beauty & The Beast, Bohemian Rhapsody or Chicago.. Hopefully that won’t be the last time I’ll be singing along in there too x
