Well that was a whirlwind few days! Started on Thursday with a road trip down to our favourite walk by Seven sisters. Scrumpy dragging me the whole way as she could smell the sea at the end… Hardly anyone else on the beach and the cliffs gleaming white in the unexpected bonus end of March sunshine.. All that was missing was a Mr Whippy at the end, think the ice cream van doesn’t come till Easter.
Friday eve heralded our return to Chez Bruce on Wandsworth Common – not been there in years and it is still just as goods as it always was. Just the one arm and a leg required to settle the tab, but a very happy Mr H, full of fish and a rather nice white wine..
Saturday morning was a bit of a rush – birthday breakfast in the sun on the terrace, and the opening of prezzies – ah, you know you’re getting old when you buy your hubby a book of British Garden birds so he can watch them on the bird feeders.. Counter balanced by some snazzy sailing gear for the big 2 month summer trip – he goes in 4 weeks!
Headed off to Stoke Newington – yup, there’s a first – to meet everyone for a pub lunch (Indian tapas, actually very good) at a boozer not too far from the Spurs ground. Paul Taylor, Ian Hancock, Tim & Mel, Jules & Nicky, Banners and we two all headed off to some very fancy seats at the ground, in a massive sun trap, to watch Saracens play Bristol, H’s old team. The perfect match – lots of scoring and an ALMOST win for Bristol who scored the winning try in the dying seconds, only to have it disallowed for a dubious forward pass.
Rather a treat to have the not-twenty-deep-to-the-bar premium experience and the BEST LOOS I have ever experienced at a sporting venue – bloody hell, they were nicer than my old work! Molton Brown hand wash and cream a very nice touch compared to the empty loo rolls and huge queues that you usually find..
Somehow post match we ended up – going for a second curry!! This time in Vauxhall midway home. And Paul Taylor – hats off to you when we got back to ours at 10.30, when I asked you what you’d like to drink (meaning water, squash, coffee etc) you suggested more white wine! I think H liked having a late night drinking buddy as wifey has scuttled off to bed!
Topped off (for me) by Epsom beating Cambridge City to reach the final of the National O45s Cup with flicks on Sunday – well done the girls. And an inaugural BBQ last night to christen H’s new monster garden toy, the Big Joe. The endless accessories for that should cover off the next few birthdays and christmasses, hurrah.
Now parked at CCL starting Chemo cycle 4 of the year – very restful by comparison to the last few days! Happy birthday Hawksey. S x
