And finally, on Thursday morning this week, Mr H returned from his 3 week trip to Australia. Having nailed Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide he was really pleased with how the 2 conferences went – as well as the back to back wine tastings that seem to have accompanied them.
Everything from the kangaroo in his Air BnB garden when he first arrived at Margaret River, his birthday day of personal sommelier interaction and food preparation, to the Penfolds cellars dinner, whole weekend of wine our (somewhere), river canoe trip stopping off at every vineyard on the way, to every other bit of imbibing – oh yes, and the work-y bit – seem to have gone well.
Just a shame to come back to the inevitable dirge of blood tests on Thursday lunchtime, then his first chemo on Friday. He's cut his hair very short to pre-empt it falling out in 10 days time, so looks a bit different, but there we go. And of course there is a mountain of drugs that accompany treatment, that we'd not fully anticipated, so another drag to go with it all.
Hey ho – good to have him back. He's now out planting his 'babies' – the seedlings being nurtured in the top bedroom , that are now allowed to see real soil and get growing, to give us some Dora veg this summer and autumn.
Had the first cos lettuce yesterday – obviously tasted VERY different (?!) – so here's to The Good Life triumphing over the less nice one that we are both trying to minimise every day.
