Meeting Great-Niece Violet

On the day we got married, I became – rather terrifyingly – a great-aunt. To Hawksey's brother's son's daughter, Isabella. So of course, I've been in denial about that for the last 8 years as surely great-aunts are at least 80, deaf, somewhat immobile and smell of cabbage? And I'm only 1 or 2 of those…

Well, it's now happened again. My lovely oldest niece Jess and her hubby Pat became parents to little Violet Evelyn a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday Mr H & I were permitted a viewing of their new precious little girl. So weird, as I remember travelling to Tanzania where Richard & Heather were doing their medical missionary work, nearly 30 years ago, when Jess herself was a small baby. Nothing better than the photo of my then boyfriend holding Jess up in the air as he was seated on the ground, and a lightning stream of yellow poo emerging from her ill-fitting Terry nappy, all down his legs..

But I digress…

The generations have somehow revolved one more turn in the ensuing decades, and now Jess is a Mum, and I am a great-aunt once again, to a little gorgeous bundle of babyness.

Lovely to see them all as a family unit, and here's to the hopeful move out of the 4th floor flat (with no lift, eek) and into a nice Charlton house in the new year, all being well.

Welcome to the family Violet / Lettie! x
