After 4 days on our Tod (and practically in our pants, given the lack of clothes) in the house, Jules & Nicky arrived first – with the suitcase.
Followed by Soph with baby Martha whose flight was delayed so much that their car hire was closed by the time they got there, causing Soph to have to cough 700 euros (!!!!) for a different car hire car. After which she was stopped and breathalysed en route to here, finally arriving at 1am! Amazingly calm though given the circumstances, and thank god for the wonders of sat nav.
But all was forgotten as everyone soaked up some much needed rays of sun, given the crappy weather at home still.
There was chilling by the pool, and a trip to the beach, where Martha made sandcastles with H. Great that the house came equipped with beach chairs and useful bits for carting down onto the huge expanse of sand, with hardly any people on it!
And lots of hanging out at the house, in the pool with the lilies, getting the BBQ up and running and making the most of a nice space that was easy for baby Martha. Very unusual for us to have a baby in tow and to work round sleep times, food times and nappies…
Plus spent a few hours in front of the tv, watching the Coronation, having Coronation chicken baps for lunch (bread from the amazing bakery that won 2nd prize in the whole of Spain for its delicious turmeric bread), with Coronation serviettes etc etc.
Once Soph had headed home, we went off to Jerez to a few of the haunts we enjoyed the last time we rented a house in Spain, 5 years ago, and thence to Puerto de Santa Maria where H & Jules drank every sherry in sight during their tasting and the very nice lunch at the bodega that followed. Funnily enough, I drove us all home..
A fab few days – Jules leaves very shortly and then it's on to the next set of guests! x
