So – this afternoon I'm due to have my 16 staples taken out that are currently holding my back together.
Only issue is, it's only day 7 since the op, and they're meant to come out somewhere between 8 and 10 days afterwards.
But – the GP nurse isn't in tomorrow, and days 9 and 10 are Xmas Eve and Xmas day, so not quite sure who I can wrestle into service on those days.
So – today could either be:
- Nurse takes them out today, all nice and easy, no problems (my preference!)
- Nurse tries to yank them out, they're not quite ready to let go, blood everywhere, a right mess (hmm, not so keen on this one)
- Nurse says 'No, too soon to take them out' – but has no suggestions as to who will taken them out (wonder how steady Mr H's hand might be after a couple of large eggnogs, like a game of Operation, will he set the buzzers off?)
- Nurse says 'go to X place on Saturday and they'll do it' – happy for this option but not convinced anyone will be wielding tools on Xmas eve (and actually be sober)
Place your bets now on option 1-5…. Good job I can't actually see my back hey?
Pain overall is feeling WAY better than it was a few days ago, so that's good. And I actually managed to get my own socks on this morning. And pick up the dog bowl to refresh the water – all low level things that are a bit tricksy with a newly metalled-up back. So – good progress.
Now just have to see Prof at 1pm today to convince him that:
- I don't have a temperature
- I'm not as off my t+ts on the meds as I was when I had my last Dara pre-Xmas on Tues (I was stoned and laughing at everything, what a state! Quite liked it, actually..)
- I can go ahead with all the injections and pre-transplant stuff as per the current plan
- If there is ANY way I don;t have to come all the way back to London on the 30th to see him for a 'final check in' then that would be a major bonus. Doubt I'll swing this one, but it would be so nice not to have to schlep all the way here by train and then all the way down to J&R's cottage. Did try suggesting Skype but he didn't bite – will have another crack today.
So – things not too bad, which is better than it might have been. And Scrumpy has only eaten 3 of the xmas presents so far – little sod – which is the same as last year (how she got that enormous Xmas pudding down her chops, I still don't know. Just the cellophane wrapper and a full-looking dog were left).
Happy last few days before Xmas to you all – hope you're hanging up the work shoes soon, if not already – and getting the mince pie quotient up to where it should be x
