Even as I write this, I'm thinking 'hmm. fingers crossed that's not a 'famous last words' prophecy… but here's hoping the plans that we're forming all do come through.
It's been a slightly dull Jan so far – well, Jan is rarely the wowiest month is it? Probably much to do with us trying to shed some pounds which also doesn't tend to equate to 'having a wild and crazy time'! But still, Mr H is well over a stone down (the git) and I an nearly a stone down (actually damn good for me and my usual waywardness) so here's to putting some much more fun things into place that will undoubtedly undo all the good work!
The travelling-abroad year so far is looking like:
– British Virgin Islands in mid February – 12 days away, 4 in a hotel and 8 on a fab catamaran with John & Hannah Nurse (yes, those well-known teetotallers, not)
– Alderney, a spot of cycling and puffin-watching, dipping our toes in the turquoise but bloody freezing waters, for our wedding anniversary in May, just me and the hubster
– Miami and then the Turks & Caicos Islands (a new Gansevoort has opened on Providenciales, off to check it out) with Big J in late May
– Still trying to wangle a trip to Uzbekistan in August – anyone up for travelling the Silk Road to Samarkand? Probably one of the few areas of the world unlikely to be plagued by English schoolkids on summer hols…
– Ethiopia for an 11 day tour of the Northern highlights – yes there are some! Including Lalibela, the amazing place with the underground churches, god I've become almost cultured in the middle age.(Via a few days of somewhat better food I suspect in Dubai) in late Sept/early Oct
– Valencia for a long weekend in October
– And possibly New York in November – flights booked (god bless Avios!) and plans a-forming….
Add on the UK weekends away – The Crowthers and kids in mid April in the New Forest, Cambridge with Vicki & Rachel (whenever they pull their fingers out!), the cottage etc etc and I can see why there's barely any time to squeeze work in… Though needs must.
And in-between – let's get together! Our weekday diaries are particularly sparse at the moment so all social suggestions v welcome! Sx
