Is that a Unicorn?

So, I managed to somehow totally bugger my back in Spain last weekend. I was very lucky to make it back on the coach to the airport (just one minor scream when the coach went over a bump, which I tried to pretend wasn't;t actually me) and an unhelpful bit of turbulence on the plane which had similar effects. The girls very kindly dragged my trolley dolly for me and Ross collected us at Clapham to whisk me home. Gracias to one and all.

Since then it's been a bit of a bitch – had an MRI on Tuesday, saw Prof on Thursday who said there was no sign (thank God) of the Myeloma returning. And finally saw the back specialist, Jason Bernard, yesterday. Talk about counting every hour, literally holding my breath to avoid coughing and trigging the white pain beast, till I saw him.

He said it was 'good news' as there was no visible fracture. Personally, I want done, as the last time that happened and they filled the fracture with some magic kyphoplasty (cement) it worked a treat and the pain was gone in a surgical instant. This time it was the less reassuring, 'well hopefully after a week it should start subsiding' (which is now, and it hasn't). And then he gave me a cortisone injection into my lumbar spine – ouch. And some, for once actually effective, drugs.

So here I am now – jacked up on Gabbapentin and Diazepam, plus a Lidocaine back patch, which means I am now not allowed to drive. And actually was told, rightly, that I shouldn't be driving with the back in that state anyway. Annoying. Bang goes my spa trip with Claire on Monday, and my fortnightly trip to see Mum on Wednesday. On Tuesday though I am going to creep into Sea Containers as there's some training and a chance to have lunch with the lovely Sarah Taylor. For once I shall be walking up and down the hill to the tube.

So – if anyone's around this week and fancies dropping in for tea, do text me and let me know. Or its me, the animals and the giant TV.

Oh, and of course, my friendly unicorns which I am now hallucinating gently on the drugs…. Woah there, Silverback, Pinkbraid and Skycanter… x
