I Only Meant to Trim the Bay Leaf Bushes…

A momentous day – I finally felt up to having a little hack at the garden, which is hugely overgrown in its titchy backyard space.

Thought I'd start with the 2 bay tree bushes (wedding presents from Added Value – almost 6 years later they are somehow still alive (albeit one a bit singed from Mr H's all too close positioning of the BBQ). Then I moved on to the little privet hedge-y thing at the bottom of the bushes, but realised I needed to get the strimmer out, and couldn't be arsed to fetch the extension cord.

So instead thought 'I know – I'll have a crack at the massive wall of 15 foot bamboo, that'll be easier' ???!!!!

Started with hat and fleece on – by the end of it I was bare-headed (sod the neighbours) and more than a touch 'glowing' shall we say. Turned round from my precarious position on the little end wall to find I'd managed to barricade myself at the wrong end of the garden with what was now a bleddy great mountain of bamboo plus about 15 thick strands of very prickly vine that had grown from the alley side into the back border. Hmm – how to get back into the house?

No help available from Scrumpy who was too busy eating the bamboo. Nor Mojo, on top of the BBQ, nestled on my discarded woolly hat. (Now gone from photo – the lure of her food in the kitchen beat the hat, paws down). Just about managed to carve a path back indoors, and 'celebrated' with a salad lunch. My, I know how to throw a party for one.

Next challenge – how the hell to get the debris to the dump. Especially as there are more offcuts to be removed than there is live bamboo left up, pretty much…. Better hope Scrumpy is extra hungry.

Still, am mightily chuffed that I can now do this – even 3-4 days ago it would have still been too much. Although I suspect there may be a bit of aching to be had later tonight and tomorrow, but in my book, more than well worth it just to be back in the land of the 'normal', or at least a whole lot closer. Hurrah!
