I'm baaaaaaaack!!!!!
Think I slightly shocked the Parkside staff when I was up, dressed and sitting on my bed by 9am this morning, in a major effort to try and go watch the Aces hockey game at 10.30am. No perhaps not the most sensible thing to head from after back surgery the previous day, but I really wanted something for ME and to see the girls on the one day a week they play – so this morning, I was going to nail it.
It was also – small triumphs – the first days in 2 weeks that I managed to get my own trainers on AND do them up all by myself. Did take me 12 minutes, some swearing, the knocking down of a shelf that I thought was fixed and lean-able on, some sweating, a lot of panting and then a sit on the bed – but them there shoes was finally on.
So Mr H duly carted me off to watch hockey with my new flap down granny chair (there are never any seats at hockey pitches), granny blanket (how windy was it today?), woolly hat, thick coat and general 'old broken git' accoutrements. Hurrah for us winning 1-0, which is another 3 points, and keeps us top of the league then we will be second again when Chertsey's results come in today – are only real rivals this season and are bound to win.
Always good to see the girls and have the post-match natter – even when our 75 year old umpire Douglas called me Caroline again (we do look similar but after 5 years you'd think he might have nailed it?!)
Anyway – it was also Vanessa's birthday so we stumped up a cake and brought it in with a slightly over-sized candle:
Needless to dsy, 15 seconds later the bloody Bank of England fire alarms all go off – and we couldn't have picked a bigger Club for it to happen in. Hockey players, rugby boys, footie louts, people eating lunch, kids in a tumble tots area, a restaurant, massive bar…..
All got evacuated and it was mortifying! Thought that was a v good moment to slink off home and give the back a bit of a lie down….
Oops! An unexpectedly exciting first day out post-Balloon Kyphoplasty
