Hurrah – the Hawkster flew through the Ride 100 challenge like a crazed giant leprechaun, resplendent in his green and white Macmillan cycling top this Sunday.
The 4.15am alarm and 5.15am meet with Jules, Nicky, Si and Tex at Tower Bridge was nothng compared to the weather horrors of the day. Yet despite the atrocious weather – how can Saturday and Monday both be delightful, calm and sunny when Sunday has Hurricane Bertha's filthy skies, torrential rain &flash flooding? – he whipped round the course in a lightning 4 hours and a bit and was still able to cycle to the pub afterwards for a couple of well-earned pints of replenishing Guinness..
Have to say – boy done very, very good. And at least it stopped raining briefly just as he came through Wimbledon Village so my homemade banner was still in one slightly soggy piece as Janine, Ross & I waved him on..
Although now he seems to no longer be content with a 100 mile ride and has signed up to do the Land's End to John O'Groats ride in a few week's time. Nine hundred and sixty something miles in total, 9 days to do it in, so over a hundred miles to pedal each day – god forbid – ah well, my lycra widowhood continueth…. x
