Groundhog Thursday

Woke up in room 302 at 6am, and was plugged into bag 1 of the day by 6.30am. So at least I was tootling my way homewards by 8am, with my new friend, acid reflux, rather annoyingly yanking my chain quite a few time.

Georgie Headley popped round for morning tea – and as an experiment, I had my first one in several weeks. Well, half a cup, as while my mouth can now tolerate a nearly hot drink, it still tastes totally 'out' for me and I just didn't enjoy it. Poo. I'll have to give it a bit longer. Anyway, cheers for the hand creams, all will be slathered on, and the M&S egg mayo butty was a jolly good lunch.

Back to the ward for the 2pm gunking – they were brilliantly ready, almost a shame as I felt knackered and could have done with a longer kip. Still got rising and falling acid, nasty little bugger that is, so had to sit on the bed deep breathing for a hit before venturing back home.

Home and looking forward to a couple of particularly nice Double Chic Chip biscuits, only to open my front door to a strange scene.i thought some kind chum had popped some sweets through the letterbox while I was out but realised they all looked a bit familiar. Several boiled sweets and wrappers. A Sherbert DibDab bag and stick. Chocolate truffle wrapper. The Jelly Beans bag. And could it be……. the Double Chocolate Chip biscuits empty wrapper!. Nooooooo………..!

Did three whistles (how we summon Scrumpy) and a very head-down shamefaced spaniel with tail between legs, crept towards me, and the evidence. Clearly she's not massively keen on sherbert as that was the only thing left on the mat, the little bugger.

Anyway, had a groundhog afternoon of crap afternoon TV, trying to scratch my various itches with an emery board, with varying degrees of success, and dozing on the sofa.

Am also prodding cautiously around my neck and décolletage. I've been given a pain patch which is stuck to my lower inside shoulder and which seems to give no pain relief whatsoever, but I'm thinking it may be the cause of the sore skin that I've now got in that area. Who knows..

Currently somewhat hungry and interested in dinner, but wondering if I might just have milk. Not quite there yet, as taste buds are totally screwed, and the sharp bursts of acid reflux don't help, but it's really good to be feeling a bit more interested in regular food. Mucous now gone (bye, you gluey horror show) and ulcers are much smaller, although still here, all good steps towards getting back to a normal relationship with food, I hope.

So, a few hours' peace in front of the fire, then I'll be heading back to PS for the 9pm dose later, and to stay overnight. Much more tempting to hang out here then creep upstairs for a lovely bath, but have set the alarm to ensure I make it back to my hospital pit.

Fingers crossed we have a good discussion with Prof tomorrow and I can move forward on to tablets.. We will see Xx
