Getting into the Birthday Swing..

Had my first birthday bash this Fri – a mere 8 days before the actual day, I am slipping in my efforts..

First off, toddled my way with Janine around the Battersea Art Fair. Neither of us purchased, but still very nice to be back there, ambling the aisles, always on the sniff for that 'you're coming home with me' picture. Unlucky Mr H had managed to double book himself with an appointment at the dentist, so kindly dropped us off before heading into the drilling chair..

Headed on from there into town for a very abortive attempt at shopping. Anything post August is utterly hopeless for me as I am permanently in 'short sleeved tops' mode, which is clearly a challenge once the winter woollens hit the shelves. Still bemuses me entirely that all women's pyjama tops seem to either have 'Sleep Tight Sweetheart', 'Cuddle Monster' or similarly shit slogans on them, usually compounded by pastel polar bears or waving teddies. Does no-one think there are any females over the age of 9 who still need nightwear?? Ah well..

Did top off the day with the AV5 girls' night – kicking off at the London Cocktail Club off Goodge Street. It's always a bit hit and miss whether we'll be too mutton for a cocktail bar these days, but this one was perfect – an excellent range of cocktails and we even piled in 4 minutes before Happy Hour ended, so scored a round of 2 for 1 little beauties to get the night underway.

Who knew that custard creams were a thing on a cocktail at the moment. Also Oreos, carefully slid slightly apart so the cream can wedge the biscuit to the glass lip vertically.. Even had good music – also a rarity! Love that the 80s are back in for the twenty-something crowd, suits us down to the ground.Went on from there to Barrica over the round – great tapas, despite one slight hitch where the new waiter tried to claim that the Iberico dishes were 'one lamb and one beef' – as Janine pointed out, she'd never heard of an acorn-fed cow or lamb, so they were indeed, as expected, pork. Especially ironic as the very first trip we had to cancel back in April 2020 was with the 4 of us to see.. the acorn-fed pigs in the Iberico region. Would still love to rebook that one some time!

All in all, a top night, with some splendiferous prezzies to boot. Gracias chicas! x
