Hawksey & I walked all the way from home to the Ship at Wandsworth last week, with a view to having a leisurely riverside beer in the sun. Where of course it was instead bloody freezing and a howling wind was blowing through the table area that we firstly sat down in.
So we were kindly shifted round the corner to a little nook with 2 large barrels to sit at – and guess who was already at the other barrel? None other than the lovely Charlie Hiscocks who I used to work with at Added Value and then indirectly with when he moved to SAB. And who was out having a natter with an old beer colleague himself.
I've always found him such a nice, genuine chap and nothing has changed! Hawksey remembered that I'd mentioned Charlie to him a couple of years ago when Charlie was between jobs and decided to do a 'Year of Curiosity' which basically meant saying yes to everything that fell into his path, from carving an armchair in the woods to spending a couple of months travelling widely. Funny that we were all drinking Peroni – old habits die hard – as we then had a couple more together, reminiscing a bit and catching up on new things – including his son Olly who has launched a range of olives and pretzel snacks, which of course Charlie has samples of in his trusty bag..
A treat of a random meet and a reminder of yet another wonderful person from Added Value days, that company really did give rise to so many valued friendships, which continue to thrive all these years – decades even – later x
