As I sit here typing this with the rain hammering down on the big windows above me, it feels like we were rather lucky with the Dec weather this weekend, when D&M came down to see us!
H made a very fine sourdough (his latest craze) on Thurs lunch to go with my parsnip soup (Mands' request) and we then all headed out to Garson's down near Esher. A good option on a blowy old afternoon, for some indoor action and a bit of Xmas shopping. By this point we had finally enough new baubles to – boo hoo hoo – replace all the ones that were broken on Monday eve when we had a total DISASTER – the bloody Xmas tree came out of its base and fell down, smashing 90% of the baubles on it. Between the 4 of us we got it back up and redecorated – just hope we never have the horror of that one again.
Friday heralded a dog walk – surprise! – and some golf ball hunting on the Common, then the four of us went down to the waterside in Richmond (where the river rose amazingly high, lapping at the pub entrance), for a walk and a browse in the shops for me & Mandy. Then a late lunch at the Ivy as we were booked into the Kew Garden lights at 5.40pm. And they were just as good as last year! Really impressive and only a light bit of drizzle to send us round – think we were all very relieved that I hadn't booked for Sat eve in the howling winds and rain…
Sat was pretty grim as expected so we were mostly on indoor games, with Mands winning the Skipbo, and H managing to do his power of attorney again under David's watchful tutelage – let's hope we have a full set of 4 between us that pass muster before the end of this year! We nipped up to there Hand in Hand for supper, still rather full from a round of H's sausage rolls and homemade mince pies in the afternoon..
A very good weekend and great to see D&M, who were heading home to get little furry Miss Mabel back from doggy day care. Come down too next time Mabes! x
