Just back from a week away in Crete with the lovely David & Mandy.
In all honesty, Crete wasn't sadly my favourite island to have visited, partly as it seemed a tad ugly & rocky rather than with stunning simple pretty Greek architecture, partly as it was busier still in early Sept then I'd thought it might be, partly therefore that the beaches were busier than expected too and partly that I didn't feel its charm particularly. Oh – and the fact that it was hotter (and drier) in the UK that week than it was in Crete!! Grr…
Having said that – a week with D&M is a very good thing wherever we may be. Plenty of time to catch up and of course lots of things that were still lovely – hanging out by our house pool, leaping on the lilos, cooking on the bbq, eating out on our very nice terrace overlooking the sea, pottering round Chania, having a few meals out, swimming in the sea, pottering the food market etc etc – all the usual bits and bobs of a Med week away. Plus a few random bits such as visiting the war graves – we could see them very clearly from our house, so thought we really should pop down and pay our respects.
And of course, Mr H enjoying himself playing Zorba the Greek music at every possible opportunity, getting up to Dad dance with David to the (remarkably similar) tunes..All a wee bit blurry in every sense of the word.
D&M headed home the night before us, boo, so it was an unexpected bonus that H's brother Tim & wife Mel were arriving in Chania the next day, a few hours before we were due to fly back home.
Managed to squeeze in a quick bite of lunch with a cheeky beer and dropping them off at their hotel, before heading back to the airport ourselves. Hurrah! x
