Chris Cowburn’s 60th party weekend

Isn’t it amazing how four decade after uni, you can still feel the pull to go all the way to Manchester for a party of someone you played hockey with in 1987?

Albeit with the added bonus of being able to see (and stay with) Rachel, who I also played hockey with at uni and have been friends with ever since as well. Plus her hubby Roger, and the youngest one of her offspring, Charlie.

Also a big bonus to see Charlotte Curwen at the party (who ironically lives just down the road from us in Clapham) – the sister of Jules Curwen, who was in my year. Apart from knowing Charlotte at Cambridge, through playing hockey too, we somehow all met up in Bangkok once, as you do, when she was heading home after a trip there and Jules & I, plus Robbo and Helen Vickery had just arrived. One dark night on the 60p-a-bottle Mekong whisky and memories are definitely made…!

Great to see Chris, plus to meet her other half Karl and daughter Alex. Manage to fit in a brunch the next morning as well, before we drove back down as the trains were buggered. H was a star given he has hardly seen Rach & Roger and knew no-one else – big brownie points!! x x
