Well – a whole 5 years after the hurricane that decimated the BVI's we made it back there and it was SO worth it.
Headed off with Fi & Rich as our boat partners in crime, and we had a total ball. here, us in the dinghy with the catamaran in the background – complete with the "Love Flag', as it was Valentine's Day when we were out there (and it was a very handy way of spotting our boat among the many similar ones!)
The BVI's beaches are as stunning as they always were, the water crystal clear and turquoisey and the perfect temperature – especially when escaping the Feb drizzle in London.
Our boat mostly behaved, despite anchor / air con and water making problems, all par for the course, and took us around in the strong winds a tad more quickly than anticipated! Not quite enough to blow Mr H out of his hammock though…
Fab to revisit some of our old haunts and to introduce Fi & Rich to the Soggy Dollar Bar, Willie T's etc.
And to get all the way up to Anegada, the long island which is almost totally surrounded by reefs, with only one thin snaking route into The Settlement. Still only about 20 feet at its highest, def not where you'd want to be if a tsunami came to town.. Hired a car to get to Cow Wreck Beach (yes, a boat hit the reef there, with cows on it..) and had a Painkiller or two at the bar there – as well as several others during the week!
A really great 9 days together, sailing, eating, playing silly word games, being taught Rummikub, Fi being hopeless at Perudo, dancing to crap tunes on the boat – a blast.
Thanks for being such good boat chums F&R – and that your livers are drying out nicely x
