THANK GOD – Hawksey cooked his first ever brisket on the Red BBQ Monster last weekend and it was TRIUMPHANT. A bloody good job considering it was delivered by Janine from a very nice farm in West Sussex, seasoned here, cooked for 12+ hours and then TA DA – the monster hit the table as planned around 8pm on Friday night.
Alongside some very healthy (not) USA accompaniments – mac and cheese, creamed corn and roasted sprouts. Bloody delicious. A slight shame that half the key lime pie had seeped out of its casing, but given how full we all were, it was hardly missed..
Really lovely to have J&R, James & Dominic join our overnight guests Fi & Rich, though they did leave us with a huge amount of leftovers. We will be eating mac 'n' cheese till the cow it came with comes home…
Then off to the rugby – as they say, oh what a difference a week makes. Last week – wet, miserable, crap uninspiring play and a loss to Argentina. This week – sunshine, warmth, some actual flair on the pitch, several tries right under our noses and a very good win against a decent Japan team. Followed by a curry – am still amused that we have Maddie the dog, Fi has Maddie the daughter and Rich's youngest offspring Hugo (soon to be seen rowing – as in boats – with George Clooney in a film!) who has Maddie the girlfriend! Lucky young things are off on a 4 month trip around South East Asia – jealous moi??? Still crying in my lager…
Just about managed to eat more with Jules & Nicky at a very nice 'thank you for looking after the animals in October' lunch – at the Lighthouse in the Wimbledon, really good. And Sun eve – collapso.
