What summer would be complete without an AV5 girls’ trip to the cottage?
Despite the pretty dismal weather forecast we were pretty lucky overall, managing the snaffle cheeky cocktails in the garden on the Fri eve before being ‘encouraged’ (by the rain) to eat indoors. Watched over by the triffid-like hollyhocks – check out those whoppers!

Saturday heralded a trip to Cowfold to there Silly Moo cider farm, where the usual burger was scoffed, coder was consumed and bits & bobs purchased from the various foods & drinky stalls around the cow yard. Always slightly uncomfortable eating a burger with the mooing residents looking on, but we settled in, listened to the (pretty good!) band play their stuff and rose to the challenge.

This year’s ‘big show’ at Chi was Top Hat – and it wasn’t quite as good as previous years, with Oliver and The Sound of Music still topping that bill. But still a good night out, with a bargain basement pizza dinner in the restaurant there. Still thanking god that we missed the previous evening’s Gala Night which required period costume dress! My wardrobe contains many rather elderly items but not quite that old.. or shiny glam.. or feathery…phew.

All in all a success as it always is, with J & I relegated to the sofas overnight and the girls enjoying the beds upstairs. Much admiring was done of Ross’s new window, an excellent addition to the kitchen. We then plundered the garden for its remaining homegrown joys and many a lovingly tended runner bean, tomato, apple and pear headed off back to London at the end… thanks Ross!
