A Lucky Escape…

So – drove down to not so sunny Margate today to see Mum and take her out for lunch.

On the upside, when I asked her how old I was going to be this month, on this occasion she said rather uncertainly – 'thirty?' Which is better than a few weeks ago when it was 'fifty five?'

Then she said, 'so what am I getting you for your birthday?' And of course, I have bought myself something from her, technically, so I told her that it was a fishing rod. And that hopefully we will be catching fish to eat in the South Pacific with it on my actual birthday, so a very good present.

She shrieked, 'a fishing rod??!' And I said, yes, really it's just what I needed and it will be useful.

And then I asked her, so Mum, if you had been choosing for me, what would you have got me for my special big birthday?

Wondering if there might have been a reason for her asking, although that would be really quite unusual if so.

She considered for a few seconds and then looked very pleased with her answer.

So my big present, according to Mum in all her wisdom, if she's been taken to the shops to get something for me, was….

A Bookmark.

???

!!!

Now the fishing rod is seeming like a HUGE prezzie!

Tee hee.. A bookmark, my arse!
