A Cheeky Pub Overnighter

Having spent far too much time this week ploughing through my April and May work days for Kantar, writing an inspiration article (I'm not too sure it lived up to its billing..) and a pile of case studies, I managed to knock the work malarkey on the head yesterday to head off for a pub night away with Janine pre-Spain.

Started off at the Black Swan in Ockham which is a jolly good pub, driving there in J's new car, to be known as 'Car-los' as it has ACZ on its number plate – apparently making it a dead ringer for one of her tennis faves, Alcaraz.. Very nice lunch in the boiling hot garden, somehow forcing myself not to order chips with the – as it turned out – massive and very sloppy club sandwiches we both had. Alongside several lime & sodas – wow, do we know how to push that wild boat out!

Then went down to Guildford en route and had a wander round the shopping streets, which I have to say were waaaaay nicer than I remember – though I think I last shopped in Guildford half a lifetime ago! Snarfed two identical t-shirts in White Stuff – well, if I like something I then massively over-wear it, so two at a time – especially on their 2 for £40 offer – was too much to resist..

Thence onto the pub, the very dog-friendly  Merry Harriers near Godalming, us two and Flossy settling into our garden hut thingy very happily. Tea in the room, drinks in the garden, dinner in the boozer and back to our little room patio in time for me to cajole the fire pit into life.

The pub provided a very sweet kilner jar with giant marshmallows on it, to be used in the fire pit. Sadly they didn't provide any skewers, so J resorted – successfully – to using a tea spoon, with the giant white splurge carefully impaled on its head. There weren't other options so I went for the reed from the reed diffuser in the room. Yes, thin and a good shape for sticking a marshmallow onto. The catch? The reed had clearly sucked up lots of the room scent from its little bottle and my plain marshmallow had a distinct flavour of flowers-slash-loo-cleaner. I was breathing out room diffuser niff for quite some time after the marshmallow had long gone….

Anyway – nice to get away and am now at chemo – for a change – getting the last one in before I fly to Spain tomorrow to join H and Maddie. It's raining on arrival but looks good afterwards – Espana, here I come!
