Grrr, bugger – bye bye holiday

So – the Hawksey back saga continues. Poor man is still in a lot of schtuck – had to go to Parkside yesterday to have an epidural, to see if that might reduce the prolapsed bit around his vertebra and release the nerve that is causing him have limited strength nor feeling in one of his legs.

He actually fell over in the house this week as he was moving a floor rug back into place and his leg didn't do what it was meant to, so he went down like a sack of spuds. Luckily one of his work bods was dropping his laptop off so she came to the rescue as I was in Geneva. Apparently Scrumpy rushed straight to him, wee'd copiously in distress and then lay stock still next to him in an 'I'm guarding you' kind of way. Good job the pool of wee didn't seep as far as him..

So, we've had to do the only thing we can which is to cancel our much-looked-forward-to Ethiopia trip – probably not the kind of place you want to be caught with a back issue flaring up, plus we were meant to be walking up a volcano, travelling for days on bumpy roads and miles from any decent medical care etc which, given H can barely get up & down our stairs, just ain't gonna happen. Bye bye Club flights to Dubai, business flights to Addis Ababa, 6 internal flight(yes, really..), the entire trip around Ethiopia and 2 nights in a swanky Dubai hotel on the way back. 9 months of planning up the swannee and the insurers are going to love us..Cue the fight to scrabble whatever proportion of this we can get, back.

And it seems its just a watching and waiting game re his back & leg – we see the epidural man again in 4 weeks time and not sure at all when we see the neurosurgeon again – I think it's going to be a case of wait and see.. and you know me and my sense of patience. Urrrrrrggggghhhhh. x
