… since playing the first match of the 2014-15 hockey season and I am happy to say I can almost move again. Sitting in the car for the 2 hour drive home post-match last Saturday, and then looking after godson Oliver and his twin sisters for a few hours with Mr H while poor Claire & Jon shuttled between the two hospitals their respective mothers are both in – well, let's just say it didn't help the back, muscles, legs and general flexibility of this old goose.
We schlepped up to Southgate to play their 2nd XI – they had just been demoted from the South league above this one, and we have only just moved up into this League – so it was a bit of an 'oh god' Goliath moment to kick the season off. We lost 5-0 but actually played bloody well – despite our average age of 45ish vs their probable 25ish average, including a rude number of leggy late teens.
And now I can almost pick things off the floor again without wincing – just in time for this Saturday's imminent match! If anyone's passing Tiffin in Kingston, we will be there at 10am, and we're the ancient ones in the pink and blue Aces strip….
