Wimbledon Ladies Hockey Club 125th Anniversary

Givne that we were meant to be in Ethiopia I hadn't given a lot of though to the event planned this weekend at WHC – my old stomping ground for 10 years between the ages of 20 and 30.

But was SO pleased that I went along, both to the Saturday evening drinks and hobnob, and to the games on the Sunday. Everyone back on the grass, in front of the Clubhouse, in full glorious september sunshine, with one team in full Jo-Close-made 1889 hockey gear, complete with wooden banana head sticks. God only knows how they stayed on their feet and actually managed to hit the ball.

I propped up the Hannibal Brown bar with LaLa Gregory and watched old friends and current ones jiggering about the pitch and getting incredibly sweaty in those tight neck thick cotton blouses and full length skirts. made me hot just looking at 'em..

Well done Jo Close & Georgie Headley for masterminding it – there are never enough people in this world who give up their time and pull things like this together, and they should be proud of how brilliant the whole thing was.
