Majorca – tick

Just back from long weekend with Sophie, Nicky & Vicki to Palma in Majorca. Had a really good apartment, right off the Plaza Major but still rather handily nice and quiet.

And despite zero organisation before we went – we are all soon busy, dahhhhling – we still managed to pack a lot in.

Spent most of one day at Puro Beach, which had sounded like my worst nightmare (thumping club music all day long, loads of skinny 20-somethings being loud, snotty staff, extortionate prices for shit service) but which luckily turned out to be a decent sunbed by a nice pool, good lunch and great view – see photo above. And a good opportunity to take the piss out of Vicki who despite the warmth remained fully clothed on her sunbed, doing lots of miserable work.

Also wafted around Palma itself which was very nice, ticking off the various main sights like the gigantic cathedral (which had a great golden sheep atop some ancient tomb), the Arab Baths (not a bath to be seen) and the market (the scene of trying about 20 types of saucisson before finally buying… the plain one).

And our highlight was definitely discovering the wonderful (and imaginatively named) Bar Espana just round the corner from our apartment – where we spent two out of our 3 nights. Incredibly good tapas and a rather hot Argentinean barman, who was charming and kept Nicky in constant refills of her new favourite tipple, Gin Mare.

You can only imagine the horror hangover on Sunday morning – god knows how we all managed to stagger round the Miro Art Foundation and how on earth Sophie actually managed to run there on an empty stomach, growling with booze fumes.

Anyway – a fitting way to send Sophie off to her next deployment with the RAF – at least we've still got a goodbye lunch in the diary in early May before she heads off for 6 months.

Can't actually believe I am now off to Miami tomorrow, my liver is still in shock from the beating it took in Palma. Hey ho – needs must – am sure by Wed evening even I will be interested in the first holiday cocktail in the Miami heat…
