Day out with godson Oliver and the girls

As poor Jon White was incarcerated in Harefield Hospital for his heart op this weekend (all went well, leaky valve and small hole in the heart all dealt with) and Claire needed to go up and see him, Mr H and I stepped in to take the kids out for the afternoon.

Cue Mr H being his usual inventive self and a fun packed afternoon including a:

– nature trail & walk through the woods

– ball throwing session for Scrumpy into the brook

– pooh-sticks game off the little bridge

– sloe-picking stop (good for us – must get a bottle of gin to lob them into)

– rugby scrum practice under the posts

Then back to Claire & Jon's for a wee stop and biscuits, and on to a second park for:

– cricket practice for Oliver (he bowls really well, H was delighted as got to bat for ages)

– bike practice for Abi (still not quite got how to keep pedalling, but almost there)

– dog cuddling and chasing for Emma, not scared of Scrumpy any more

– table tennis for everyone

– exhausted slumping for Scotty against the fence with my butt parked precariously on Oliver's bike saddle

Topped off by a macaroni tea and a handover to Claire's marvellous mum Veronica for the bedtime routine.

I suspect we were more exhausted than the kids! Scrumpy slept like a dog-log that night…

Great that Jon's op went so well – here's to getting him back up and running on all cylinders soon. Large bottle of red wine awaits round our house to boost the heart health whenever he is ready x
