New Year and we’re into Jan..

Unusually for us, H & I stayed in London for Twixmas this year. Partly so we could have our mini Christmas a deux still, this time on Boxing Day. And also as it gave H the perfect opportunity to book a fancy lunch at his favourite restaurant, Scott's.

One happy boy pictured outside – and a happy me inside, with my fave starter of monkfish cheeks, lardon, bone marrow and garlic toast – so rich you barely need a main course (though obvs I had one!) H in crab and Dover Sole ecstasy as ever..

Then we were off to the coot (via a nice pubby lunch at The Cat with Fi & Rich en route, as J&R were out at The Pig for her brother Tim's 70th birthday).Usual lovely mix of dog walks, popping to Waitrose, making the fire, Maddie cuddles, cocktails, nibbles, a Sussex Smokie one night and then the beef bonanza, slagging off Hootenanny, TV fireworks, Auld Lang Syne, fizz, sparklers for NYE.

Just about dragged myself up Cissbury Ring with H& J on New Year's Day – no mean feat!

Final food fest of the week (hmm, suspect that's a lie..) was a trip to Ham Yard Hotel with Anita from next door, her Mom Margaret and only one daughter Charlotte, as poor Ellie was languishing at home with A Level revision, with only a large bowl of hot peas to snack on..

Perfect sofa space for a group of 4 and it was a generous tea – finger sarnies, two types of scones and waaaay too many nibbly pastries, plus 3 teapots of tea to wash it all down with. Reasonably priced at £46 too.

Honestly, the Jan diet has actually started but needs a bit of a boost. Here's to a better week 2!! x
