Things are heading in the right direction, a bit of a way to go still but definitely a step up today. Well, apart from feeling pretty sick half the day and coughing my little socks off for hours on end – that bit I could certainly do without.
Main news is that tomorrow I can move out of HDU into a regular room, so will be residing in Room 305 once I've had a shower and Mr H comes to help me pack my smalls and wobble my way up two floors.
Also saw Charlotte the lung consultant earlier, who was a bit worried about my white cell count though said she thought I could probably go home on Monday or Tuesday if all carries on improving as it is now.
Ray also popped in on his way to watching Chelsea play at home, funny how he is much less concerned re the white cell count as in myeloma-land what I've got is considered pretty good! Ah, the wonderful world of double standards, depending what's wrong with you.
Bigger news is that he is taking me off Revlimid – No More Boiling Sodding Syringes At Night – hurrah!!! And I am instead going onto a very, very new combo of chemo drugs called Elotuzumab and Pomalidomide, the first of these being a very recently released drug from the US which I'll apparently be one of the first users of in the UK – it'll be a week till the authorisations from the US come through so I'll start that on Mon 25 April. Comes as injections, marvellous.
Ah fuck, just Googled Pomalidomide – bloody capsules !! Please god not for boiling, I'll have to see if any options exist…
Have to say, very impressive that both consultants were in on a Saturday, now that is taking their jobs and patients seriously. Hats off to both of them.
Big thanks to today's merry band of volunteer entertainers – Pam, Jude and Jude's exploded thumb began the day, followed by Fitz and Moonie, and the day was topped off with Swight, Woodsie and Swight's truly hideous luminous woolly hat – where would I be without hockey chums?? H has escaped round to John & Hannah's for a bbq while I watch Britain's Got Talent live for the first time ever – I truly am their captive audience….
Here's hoping for a night of less coughing and also off the oxygen tonight with any luck as I have been all day, that'd be a bonus too..
Hope you've all had far more to drink than I have tonight – Elderflower Cordial and low sugar Cream Soda for me, my how times have changed…. X X
