Had a very good Wed eve cheeky midweek break away to the Pig near Bath with Janine. Courtesy of Mr H's Christmas voucher and a late decision to get out of my dust bowl of a house for the night. Followed by an excellent day's shopping in Bath – all pedestrianised, great shops and really nice spots by the river for a noodle lunch in the sun.
As ever, top notch 'piggy bits' as pre-dinner nibbles – giant cheese-straw-like bits of crackling, plus some other nice bits, then a great supper and a whole bunch of cocktails. Have to say, quite like the Pig hotels – now been to the original one in Brockenhurst, New Forest, then the Pig on the Beach in Dorset, the new one that is the Pig at Coombe (before it was a Pig) and apparently there is one coming in West Sussex soon. The only odd one out is Southampton – the Pig in the Wall – that doesn't seem to have a restaurant, which is kind of all the Pig hotels' reason for being (veg and fruit all grown in the garden, chickens wandering around, no sign of the actual pigs but they all 'live locally' etc etc). Hey ho – plenty to choose from and highly recommended x
