Went off to Clare Greenwood & Tony Franco's Race Night in Balham last night – not been to one of those for about 20 years, since the good old Surbiton Hockey Club fund-raisers of the 1980's….
You basically watch 8 old races, ranging from horses, to Afghan Hounds (?!) to pigs – yes, little piggies with knitted woollen riders strapped to their backs. All racing creatures have ridiculous names and you have a 1 in 8 chance of winning. Rest of the cash goes to charity.
Somehow Ross (telephone betting from Thakeham!) didn't manage to win with either the perfectly names Bald as a Coot or White Van Man – he was robbed.
But v nice to see Clare & Tony, Karen, all their mutual kids, Abbie, Mikey & Margo, Liz T & Janine, out supporting a good cause.
And all of us DELIGHTED that we are not running the 15 mile race in a few weeks, that will help add to the charity pot. Good luck Clare & Tony – you'll need it! Sx
