Ocean Film Festival 2016

Not much would drag me to Islington on a Monday evening but Nicky & Sophie managed to haul me out to see the Ocean Film Festival, which was on at the rather quickly Union Chapel up in Iz.

They showed 6-7 films all about the ocean, ranging from an Indian girl trying to prove that girls in India can surf and be independent. To some US film-makers wanting to leave a legacy of ocean appreciation to the next generation. To a cute French boy 20-something trying to prove that a jute boat can literally hold water (he chose well – great route by the Andaman Islands) – accompanied by chickens and some never-going-to-grow potato seedlings.

To an Icelandic surfer mini community, hoping the wild winds would calm enough for them to practically freeze to death surfing the volcanic breaks…. To a suicidal American surf dude, trying to prove he could surf a monster wave that nearly killed him previously.. And to a kayaking maniac girl, who chose the Arctic/Russian north Aleutian Islands as her 200km trek – no wonder she kept nearly getting eaten by bears as she somewhat foolishly chose to shower in a salmon stream..

Anyway – good to see. Slightly bum-numbing seats and I will never again eat the freebie Clif bar that seemed a good idea to stop me dropping off – am sticking picking wodges of nasty protein out of my teeth… x
