You gotta love NY over Thanksgiving weekend. We last went 3 tears ago for Janine's 50th and found ourselves back there as a foursome, last weekend.
H and I got in on the Wed eve, and were pretty bloody chilly for 24 hours until our extra bag saviours arrived with coats, hats, boots and jeans. Grenadines clothes wren't quite up to the NY weather. But still in meeting – will call soon as can x mad it out to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on the Thurs morning – here's the biggest inflatable, as it went by..
Lots of Xmas decorations and stuff all over town – the Americans really do like to give it large – so lots of ooh-ing and aah-ing over giant baubles, seasonal signage and endless tress with white lights.
Mr H trotted out his usual 'I don't want to spend lots of time shopping' line, then proceeded to buy up half of Manhattan. I think he rather likes the personal shopper in J Crew, as he bought everything they had in several colours, just to be sure – but at least it meant his Xmas presents are well and truly sorted. It's definitely the first time we have ever checked in 5 – yes 5 – bags on our way home, but when you've got everything from masks and fins to cocktail shakers and a sharp knife, then to coats and cold weather gear, it's amazing how much it all weighs!
And of course, as it was almost Janine's birthday again, we managed to knock out a few splendid meals, firstly over the bridge in Brooklyn, with a cracking view back at the city, and then at the local favourite, the imaginatively named 'Quality Meats'. Which luckily, does indeed have them.
A very good weekend all round – and, barring the inverted furry ones on various peoples heads – not a turkey in sight.
