The Build Up To Xmas

Ah, you gotta love the run up to Xmas…

Had a very nice supper at J&R's on Thurs, Ross having made a steaky pudding – and very kindly left out the kidney on the side as that's one sure way to get me gagging…

Followed by an excellent pub lunch with Liz T at the Plough in Sheen on Friday – so warm outside that for some reason I ordered salad – WTF? – but did at least have the sense to whack some chips on the side…

Met H for a dog walk afterwards in Richmond Park – Scrumpy loving the squirrels at this time of year, so much so that she came home and celebrated by destroying H's work advent calendar on our door mat (her chosen location for surreptitious scoffing) – just couldn't quite get the 'Ian' out of its separate plastic box, but each of the individual choices – and a bag of Bugels – went down the canine gullet, again, sigh.

Then onto brunch on Sat with Nurse and his new lady friend Sophia – very nice, liked her (phew!). She's a geophysicist, bejesus.

And today Mikey & Margo were round for lunch with Patrick and little Emmy – Patrick then shinned so far up a tree on Wimbledon Common that I got the cold sweats. Not sure Xmas Eve in A&E with a tree branch up his tush would have been ideal but Margo was remarkably chilled.

And here they all are – en famille – Mikey looking somewhat wistful as I said I was off for a nice snooze on the sofa as he contemplated the prospect of an afternoon kids carol service and an early awakening from a rather excited little boy tomorrow morning…

Add in a flying visit from Nurse & Ashley – both of whom managed to shovel in an impromptu gammon ham sandwich and a pile of trifle before heading to the pub with H – plus an even more lightning stop off by Helen Vickery – it's been a busy run up to the big day.

So, we're now hunkered down with the tree lights on, and an air of excitement as we prepare to watch Elf, our fave Xmas film. Just needed a little Cosmo to get in the mood as I type…
