Hockey World Cup

Well, the last time I saw England (or was it GB?) play, they lost and there were floods of tears everywhere e- from the players, not me. And last night Soph kindly took me to the Hockey World Cup to see England play the Netherlands – well, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion as they whopped us a deserved 2-0. England did still play well, so hats off to them – but our little legs are no match for the gazelle-like Clogs.

And it was of course, bloody hot. Thank god we were in the shady stand, though somehow I am still entirely beetroot in the photo. Which I seem to have been for the last 6 weeks approximately – what a stunner.

Evening started with the first quarter final – Ireland vs India – a pretty dull game unfortunately, but nice that Ireland won after some average penalty flicks. They seem pretty delighted, sweet.

And then it was the England/Holland match – much faster pace, end to end stuff, but sadly no dice for the girls in white.

Still, a very good catch up with Soph (more conversations about the 'new girlfriend'….) and still just about home by 11pm to find H and Ashley in the garden, devouring steak, cheese and Ben & Jerrys. Another social night chez Dora…

Thank god the Dyson fan thing arrived yesterday though – the first coolish night up in our top floor sweat box in ages – phew! x
