Well, we all have those don't we? A few nice bits, plenty of 'meh' bits and a few 'phluggghr' bits – sounds familiar? (Hooping it's not just me!)
On the upside – went to the flicks with Janine. Played the amusing game of 'which of the films in the trailers shall we go and see?' Started off with several horror films – oh no, I don't think so, one sci-fi (I think that's what it was, getting to the stage where you're not always clear what you're watching, oh dear) and an animation – then thank god the latest Bridget Jones popped up. I hadn't been desperate to see it, but given the alternatives she is definitely on the list now!
We were there to see Better Man which several people had recommended, as that hadn't exactly leapt out at either of us. It was a bit sadder/darker than we'd expected – seems like Freddie Mercury, Elton John and Robbie all had difficult relationships with their fathers. So overall, not bad but I wouldn't be rushing to see the sequel.. To be fair, the monkey thing actually worked oddly well.
Also managed to get a good shot of Miss Maddington leaping over logs on the common in pursuit of her beloved tennis ball. Yes, this is what dog parents spend their time rather tragically doing occasionally…
H and I then nailed what we call 'Paddington Day' – the annual making of marmalade. Yet again we somehow had to go through the whole process twice as there were too many oranges. And I don't even eat marmalade! But at least the house smells goooooood and H's toast will not be naked for at least the next 3 years.
Finally, it was time to see if my first 3 months at David Lloyd had yielded any results. Despite me having lost a stone (a bloody miracle!) the metabolism rating on the Mean Measuring Machine remains exactly the same – well sod you. I am now a whole 5 years better at flexibility than I was at the start – though being as bendy as a 65 year old, while better than 70, is hardly anything to be proud of! My strength has somehow improved to that of a 39 year old, from being 41 – given that I have done nothing to work towards this, it seems rather odd but as it helps bring down the overall 'score' then I'll take it.
I even made it to my first 'Blaze' class – a combination of 3 areas, the running machine, a weights thing and the (enjoyable) punch bag. All a bit scary as I am the oldest and heaviest in there, but I managed not to bolt (unlike from the cycling Cyclone session and the Yoga one!) As soon as they get some blue boxing gloves in stock (I'm not having the red or yellow ones, who do they think I am?) then I may be brave enough to go again…
Happy weekend folks x x
